hi, I started at school them some years later went to collage evening classes. If you have a local potter to you then see if they would let you have a go or teach you.

Hi Kevin,
I am a member of the Naked Raku group, and saw your question today, (15th June). I've posted a reply to half the question!
I love your website, loads of info, lovely pots, and a Pink Floyd fan - the whole package!
I wonder if I could ask you which stoneware you use for throwing? I have been for several lots of instruction, and have a DVD, but the practice of using loads of water drives me mad - wastes clay and makes a hellish mess. When I try to throw with less water, all I get is drag, and everything goes pear shaped.
I long for a wheel, but am put off by the prospect of coating the whole room with slurry. Just a thought that the clay might make a difference - maybe not, but dryer throwing can obviously be done. The video was very interesting, and gave me new hope. Many thanks, Lynsey.

Hi Lynsey,
I use super white stoneware (SWS) available from bath pottery supplies. You should be able to get it in your area.

I am a member of the naked raku yahoo group and saw your site listed in response to an email. I like your photos of raku pots outside. It's a pity that the blacks aren't stable in UV light as they look great outdoors. Nice site. I'm still working on getting one up.

Mary Ann

I just found your website and it is on my favorite list now. Wonderful pottery and glazes. I am a potter in Louisiana and have just gotten really interested in raku. Would love to build my own kiln, but all the directions I have seen look very complicated. Yours look basic. Do you have a plan you could send me with some suggestions on how to build a very simple raku kiln. Thank you so much for having such a beautiful website. A fellow potter, Brenda

Hi Brenda
Yes I'll send some information to you shortly with some pictures. The Raku kiln I use is a modified 45Gal oil drum
